The Cheryl Newby Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC, will present the exhibit, The Carolina Connection, featuring works by Sigmund Abeles, Joseph Cave, and Mike Williams, on view from Sept. 5 through Oct. 10, 2009.

Sigmund Abeles, Joseph Cave, and Mike Williams all grew up in South Carolina - Abeles, in Myrtle Beach; Cave, in Columbia, and Williams, in Sumter. Viewers will be treated to a variety of styles, subjects, and media in this exhibition which is open to the public.

Sigmund Abeles

At seventy four, Abeles, who now lives in New York, has distinguished himself as a figurative artist and is a member of the prestigious National Academy of Design.

Joseph Cave

Cave, who was trained as an abstract expressionist at the San Francisco Art Institute and San Francisco State University in the 60's, went on to teach art at several leading institutions. After living and painting in Portugal for a number of years he returned to the Carolinas. His landscapes and still life paintings have been featured in exhibitions around the United States and abroad.

Mike Williams

Williams, who studied art at the University of South Carolina where he graduated in 1990 has earned recognition as an important emerging artist whose distinctive, innovative style sets his works apart from others. Collectors have been drawn to his intriguing "fish paintings" as well as the semi-abstract landscape paintings that he creates.
