New Bern ArtWorks Fine Art Gallery in New Bern, NC, Offers Exhibition of Vessels

New Bern ArtWorks Fine Art Gallery in New Bern, NC, will present No Boundaries Vessel, featuring a mix of functional, beautiful, outlandish and conceptional vessels, on view from Sept. 13 through Oct. 31, 2013. A reception will be held on Sept. 13, from 5-8pm, during the New Bern Art Walk.

Vessel (/ves.el/): hollow or concave utensil, as a cup, bowl, pitcher, or vase used as a container; a craft designed to navigate on the water; a duct, canal or other tube that contains or conveys a body of fluid in an animal or plant; a person as a container of qualities or feelings.

New Bern ArtWorks, known for the unusual, has gathered a group of regional potters, sculptors, and ceramic artists who have combined to produce a colorful and interesting array of vessels. The show will stretch your imagination as it has our artists in terms of the boundaries of “the vessel”.

The show both entertains, and pays homage to the wonderful place our “vessels” play in our history and culture. The vessel has over time given us clues about the habits of our ancestors and today is symbolic of sharing family time together, the sustenance of life, as well as the hunger that many face today.
