Ashe County Arts Council Offers Exhibits for the Holidays in West Jefferson, NC

The Ashe County Arts Council in West Jefferson, NC, kicks off the season with several exhibits and events which will help highlight the upcoming holiday season. Food, Glorious Food! and Tree Fest '99, will both on view at the Ashe Arts Center through Dec. 31, 1999. The Center will also display a two-dimensional "taste of the arts" while local individuals and groups will fill the Center with "artfully" decorated, themed trees and wreaths that are sure to please.

Food Glorious Food! includes two dimensional watercolors, collages, oils, pastels, colored pencil works and acrylics that will make mouths water with the sights of close-up decadence and scenes of dining experiences. Food is a basic universal need that extends into our heart and emotions when connected with the traditional holiday meals shared with friends and family. Artists for this exhibit include Joanie Bell, Molly Gambill, Ann McRae, Sharon Kasel, Betty Powell, Lenore DePree, Ida Marsh, Louise Clark, Warren Dennis and Carl Trainum.

The tree themes at Tree Fest '99 will include End of the Century Tree, Toy Tree, Nature Tree, Music Tree, Americana Tree, and more. Tree artists include Shane Little, Beth Ball, "Girls Night Out", Jerrie Francis, Stephanie Hart, Michele Lemly, "Tuesday Bridge Group" and Susan Soots.

In addition to beautifully decorated trees and wreaths, Becky Burgess, Andrea Reeves, The Gift Mart and Nancy Stone Shoemaker will provide holiday table settings. Trees and wreaths will be donated by Omni Farms, Weaver Tree Farms and Tim Eachus.

The Arts Council will display its own tree holding the work of several Ashe County artists, including works by: Ellen Sinford, Carolyn Stacy, Cindy Pacileo, Camille Morgan, Ruth Pennington, Maxine Thomas, Lyn Soeder, Nancy Underwood and the Arts Council's own Finance Manager. Linda Harms. Ornaments of art hand made by these artists will tie together the seasonal spirit of the Arts Center.
