Works by Cabell Heyward at Beaufort County Library, Beaufort, SC

A recent arrival and new member of the Beaufort Art Association, Cabell Heyward, is the next featured artist at the Art Among The Books Gallery on the second floor of the Beaufort County Library in Beaufort, SC. The exhibit will be on view through Sept. 20.

Strongly influenced by industrial and architectural themes Heyward paints with the master's details, providing the viewer with new ways to see the unusual in the used.

Heyward came to painting by way of an industrial design degree, and a ten-year career designing rehabilitation equipment at Georgia Tech. In Atlanta, he was also a founding member of the Mad Housers, a group devoted to constructing minimal prefabricated dwellings on city property for use by the city's homeless.

Heyward received his MFA from the University of Georgia in 1997 where he continued to teach after graduation. He has exhibited at the 1997 Atlanta Biennial at Nexus and at the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, GA. He has received numerous merit awards for his work in juried exhibitions including Fourth Place and the Evelyn R. Neidich Award at the 1999 Beaufort Art Association Spring Show.

Heyward has been a resident of Beaufort since moving from Athens last year and currently conducts an open figure drawing studio and teaches art courses at The Shed in Port Royal, SC. He is represented by the Matre Gallery in Atlanta.

Works by other Beaufort Art Association members will also be on exhibit with Heyward's works.
