Art Without Borders With Beatrice Schall in Greensboro

Art Without Borders, an exhibition of the mixed media world of Beatrice Schall, will be in the 1000 sq. ft. Leon's Style Salon, at Friendly Avenue and Radiance Drive in Greensboro, NC, through July 19.

Schall is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the recipient of many grants and awards for her art work.

Schall uses painting, drawing, sewing and assemblage to express layers of time and personal experiences. Her work passes in and out of the past and present, using mementos of family members, found objects and new materials to create threads of life.

Of her work Schall says, "My work involves the exploration of the human life cycle and rites of passage, and the cycles in Nature. I am drawn to a variety of materials to express my ideas, and these include found objects, fabric, family photographs, text and natural materials from the environment. (bark, straw, sand, etc.). I use the processes of painting, drawing, sewing and assemblage among others in my work. It is often an action/reaction process where one image may stimulate the next, thus allowing my intuition to play an important role. The sense of time is important to me, and by layering the materials, I hope to suggest both the layers of meaning in the work and the passage of time. My work comes from my personal experiences in all their range, from my Jewish heritage, to travel to memory, to life situations and are there for the viewer to relate to from their own background."

The exhibition is a part of the Art/Fashion Fusion program at Leon's Style Salons. The program supports local artists by offering exhibition opportunities. Also on display at the Salon will be works in: ceramics, wood, metal, papier mache, glass and fabric, by Bobby Atkinson, Duke Esterwood, Otto Gotzsche, Louise Grape, Walt Hodges, Frank Holder, Susan Moore, Kathy Reese, Patricia Schurr, Kelly Willard.
