Columbia Film Society's Film Tour Continues...

The Columbia Film Society, in Columbia, SC, is one of the host for the 1999-2000 Southern Circuit Film Tour, a program of the SC Arts Commission. The Southern Circuit is a touring exhibition of six independent film/videomakers with their works; and is the only centrally-organized, regional program of its kind in the nation. The Circuit continues with Deborah Stratman's From Hetty to Nancy.

The raw beauty of Iceland's austere landscape forms a backdrop for a series of caustic letters written at the turn of the century by a woman named Hetty as she treks with her companion Masie, four school girls and a school marm. The film juxtaposes Hetty's ironic cataloguing of the petty social interactions of her companions as they endure discomfort and boredom with historical accounts of catastrophes that reveal the Icelandic people subject to the awrsome forces of nature.

There will be a filmmaker reception, from 6:30-730pm, prior to the screening at 8pm at the Nickelodeon Theatre, located at 937 Main Street in Columbia, behind the State House.

Columbia's site for the 1999-2000 Southern Circuit is sponsored by Bravo, the independent film and video channel and Time Warner Cable.

Season passes may be purchased prior to the first screening. Season passes include admission to opening reception and (1) admission for each of the (6) six screenings. Season tickets are $18. Individual ticket prices are as follows: $3.50 for members of McKissick Museum and Columbia Film Society; $4.50 for seniors and students; and $6.00 for non-members. It should be noted that only members of the Columbia Film Society and McKissick Museum can reserve seats. Seats must be reserved by 5:30pm the evening of the individual screening. Reserve tickets will be held at the Nickelodeon Theatre box office, 10 minutes prior to the screening. Unclaimed tickets will be sold.
