
The Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild in Rutherforton, NC, invites regional artists to participate in the "2010 Celebration of the Arts Show and Sale" at the Foundation Performing Arts Center on the campus of Isothermal Community College in Spindale from Sept. 15 - 19, 2010. Awards will be given in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art categories. The deadline for applications is Sept. 8, 2010. Awards will be presented on Sept. 17, 2010. The public is invited to attend. The "Celebration" juror this year will be Connie Bostic, a native of Rutherford County. Bostic holds a BA in art from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a Masters degree in studio art from Western Carolina University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and pieces of hers are owned by the Asheville Art Museum and the State of North Carolina. From 1990 to 2000, she operated the 'zone one' contemporary gallery in Asheville. For many years Bostic has served on the board of Directors of the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center.
The Sampson Arts Council in Clinton, NC, is accepting submissions for the juried art exhibition, "Fur, Feathers and Fins" to be held Sept. 12 - Oct. 29, 2010. The Caldwell Arts Council in Lenoir, NC, in partnership with the Tri State Sculptors Association, announces the exhibitor prospectus is available for the 25th Annual Sculpture Celebration. This event, one of the South's premier sculpture competitions, show and sale, will be held on Sept. 11, 2010, at the J E Broyhill Park in Lenoir. Artists may enter up to three (3) pieces of original 3-D art in competition for $9,500 in merit awards as follows: $2,000 First Place; $1,500 Second Place; $1,000 Third Place and six (6) $500 Judge's Merit Awards. A $2,000 Caldwell Public Art Award will go to an artist for a one-year outdoor installation in Caldwell County (digital entries for the Caldwell Public Art Award only are due to the Caldwell Arts Council by 5 pm on July 30). The registration fee is $60 on the day of the event; however, significant discounts are available for artists who pre-register. The Sculpture Celebration is free to the public and no commission fees are taken in the event of sales. The competition judge is Dr. Lawrence Wheeler, Director of the NC Museum of Art. The Tryon Painters and Sculptors in Tryon, NC, are calling for entries to its "13th Regional Juried Art Show" to be held at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, 34 Melrose Ave., Tryon, from Oct. 3 through Nov. 6, 2010. Opening reception will be Oct. 3, 2010, from 5-7pm. Entries will be accepted on Sept. 16, 17, & 18, 2010, in person at Tryon Painters and Sculptors, located in the lower level of the Tryon Fine Arts Center. This year's juror will be Glen Miller, artist, professor, and museum faculty member. Miller, a native of Northeast Tennessee, has taught art in South Carolina since 1979. He has a BFA in drawing and painting from East Tennessee State University and an MA in Art and Education from The University Of South Florida and further graduate study in drawing and painting through the University of Tennessee. A public high school art teacher for 16 years, Miller is currently teaching at Converse College and Furman University, and is a member of the faculty of the Greenville County Museum of Art. The artist maintains a studio in the Pendleton Street Arts District of Greenville and is represented locally by Hampton III Gallery. Artspace in Raleigh, NC, invites craftspeople and artists working in a variety of craft media to enter "Fine Contemporary Crafts", a biennial juried exhibition. Eligible media includes functional and decorative ceramics, furniture, glass, jewelry, basketry, fiber, mixed media, paper, and wood. Redux Center for Contemporary Art in Charleston, SC, is calling for exhibit submissions.

23, 2010. Redux is the premier contemporary art venue in South
Carolina offering opportunities for emerging and established artists
to exhibit in historic downtown Charleston, SC. Exhibitions are
not limited to any media, and all applicants will be considered
for solo, group, and two person exhibitions and residencies in
2011. Redux currently presents six to eight exhibitions each year,
featuring work by internationally renowned and local, emerging
and mid-career artists. We shoot for diversity in style, media
and subject matter when planning our season. Thanks to the generosity
of the Andy Warhol Foundation, this year, three artists will be
awarded an honorarium up to $2,000. This honorarium is to help
artists offset installation and travel costs. Additionally, Redux

The Arts Council of Henderson County
in Hendersonville, NC, announces that the prospectus are available
for three of its 2010 juried and judged exhibitions: "Through
a Lens: Carolina Images" (Dec. 3 24, 2010) This
competition is open to original photographic images, either film
or digital, depicting some aspect of the Carolinas. Artists
may enter up to three (3) pieces of work per category. Judged
categories include view-scapes, nature and pictorial. Prizes
will be awarded for Best of Show ($200), 1st Place in each category
($100 each), and 2nd Place in each category ($50 each).
