Annual Faculty Exhibit and Works by William Tucker at Davidson College

The annual Davidson College Faculty Exhibition is on view in the William H. Van Every, Jr. Gallery in the Belk Visual Arts Center, at Davidson College, Davidson, NC, through Oct. 10. This exhibition features recent works from Davidson art professors Herb Jackson, Cort Savage, and Russ Warren.

Featured in this exhibition will be a recent body of Small Paintings by Herb Jackson. He is renowned for his dramatic paintings that employ striking colors and intricate textures in order to evoke a sense of intense courage and vulnerability.

Russ Warren continues to explore the form of the horse in a series of paintings entitled Mare: A Work in Progress. These large oil paintings are a variation on the same composition and offer a complex mixture of lyrical lines and bold coloration.

Sculptor Cort Savage will debut a new installation entitled, One Spoke the Other Disintegrated. This new piece employs eclectic materials and mechanization to create a unique sensory experience that deals with physical and metaphysical concepts of the human body.

In addition to the Faculty Exhibition, the Smith Gallery will feature drawings and sculpture by internationally acclaimed artist William Tucker. These works will be on view through October 3.

This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the commission of William Tucker by the Davidson College Class of 1993. This commission for a permanent installation of a sculpture on campus is the first of its kind in the history of the college. The sculpture that Tucker created for the class will be dedicated on Oct. 2, at 11am beside the E.H. Little Library. A reception for the artist will immediately follow the dedication.

For many tears, Tucker has explored the human form through roughly hewn abstract bronze castings. Both monumental and intimate in scale, his artistic explorations are extremely spiritual in nature and attempt to extract the essence of the human form, much in the manner of Rodin.
