40th Annual Sidewalk Art Show in Downtown Hendersonville, NC

Come and see what is said to be the largest art gallery in Western North Carolina. The 40th Annual Sidewalk Art Show on Main Street, in Hendersonville, NC, will feature over 110 artists from sixteen states showing over 5000 pieces of artwork. The event takes place on Aug. 6 and 7, rain or shine.

The Show starts, Fri., Aug. 6, at 10am and continues until 5pm. On Sat., Aug. 7, activities also run from 10am to 5pm.

The Sidewalk Art Show is very colorful by itself, winding down ten blocks of Hendersonville's beautiful Main Street lined with trees and planters full of flowers. Park benches are placed along the street for you to rest your feet and contemplate the artworks you have seen and which ones you would like to add to your collection.

Hendersonville's Main Street is different, too. This "small town" center is bustling with antique galleries and specialty shops. Stop for an old-fashioned soda at a real old-fashioned soda fountain, drop in at one of the town's coffee shops or have lunch at one of Hendersonville's great restaurants.

During the Show, Southern hospitality is evident. Main Street's famous Gazebo will be manned with volunteers to help artists and guide visitors. Other volunteer hosts and hostesses will be located everywhere along Main Street. Stop at the OASIS in front of the courthouse for a cool drink and a rest and listen to some music before touring the other half of the show. The OASIS is manned by members of CIVITAN, with the proceeds going to their special projects for the disabled.

For the ninth year, the Arts League of Henderson County will have its Silent Auction Booth. Art League members have donated over 30 works of art to be auctioned over the two-day period. The artists have established a market value and a minimum bid, and visitors will have a wonderful time checking their bids to be sure they stay high enough to win when the bidding ends at 4pm on Sat., Aug. 7. Proceeds go to the Art League to support their scholarship program.

Four hand colored prints will also be given away this year in a drawing. People may register at the Gazebo on Main Street, and the prints will be given away on Sat., Aug. 7 at 4pm.

Many of the new and returning artists plan to demonstrate various artistic methods within their spaces. Ted Graham will be back for the 15th year along with Danny O'Driscoll and 80 other artists returning from last year.

There will be many new artists this year, from Virginia, Missouri, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, Pennslyvania, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Louisanna, New York and all over North Carolina.

Good food and music are also part of this two-day event. The Sidewalk Art Show is unique in that there will be only one food stand run by the CIVITAN group with the proceeds going towards their good works. This is located in front of the old Courthouse. You can also listen to some Jazz music by the Basin Street Dixieland Band, Fri., Aug. 6, from 12 noon to 2pm at the Historic Courthouse on Main Street. On Sat., Aug. 7, there will be a strolling Musician walking Main Street for several hours.
