The artists also represent a broad range of styles and significant schools of art of this century. The exhibition list reads like a "Who's Who" of the western art world. Included in the exhibition are such names as Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Willem DeKooning, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Jacob Lawrence, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miro, Henry Moore, Robert Motherwell, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Man Ray, George Segal, Frank Stella, Raphael Soyer, Wayne Thiebaud, Cy Twombly, Victor Vasarely, and Andy Warhol, and many others.

Wesley Cochran began collecting in 1976, soon after he graduated from college. He accepted a job in the Near East because of the increased earning potential of working in that region. On the advice of his uncle William L. May, Cochran decided to invest his earnings in purchasing original works of art.

May had many years of experience in dealing in fine art prints by the European great masters. May advised Cochran to start collecting graphic works by 20th century artists, which he did. Each payday Cochran sent his money to his uncle in NY, who in turn purchased art works for him. When Cochran finished his work in the east and returned to America, May was waiting with the collection he had amassed for his nephew. A collection that Cochran never had the opportunity to view in person. These are the works that will be on display at the Hickory Museum of art in the Graphics by 20th Century Master exhibition.

Cochran still continues to collect graphic works, adding to his collections of graphic works by African-American artists and a Andy Warhol collection. When asked if he has a favorite work Cochran laughed and said, "Yes, the last one that I bought. It's always the last one I bought."
