Works by Jesús Bautista Moroles at Hidell Brooks Gallery

Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, NC, is pleased to announce their first solo exhibition for Jesús Bautista Moroles entitled China Inspirations. The show will run through Nov. 27.

One of America's most prominent sculptors, Moroles works exclusively in granite creating graceful forms out of one of nature's hardest materials. He uses granite from Texas, Canada, Vermont, India and Sardinia, visiting each quarry personally and selecting only the pieces which "speak" to him. From there he returns to his warehouse size studio in Rockport, TX, were he first baths the granite in water then cuts, tears, grinds and polishes with diamond-bit saws to create a visual harmony between man and nature. His sculpture ranges from monumental to small scale contrasting the naturally rough surface with the polished ones to create a balance between the textures.

Moroles' largest work to date is the Houston Police Officers Memorial, a 120 square foot public sculpture in memory of police officers slain in the line of duty. Moroles has been showing his work extensively since 1980. His work can also be found in the collections of the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian, Washington, DC; the Museums of Fine Arts Santa Fe, Houston and Albuquerque, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, TX, Museum of Contemporary Art, Osaka, Japan and the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC, among many others.

Hidell Brooks Gallery specializes in contemporary art which includes paintings, prints and sculpture.
